Cafeteria General Helper at ISP

The Cafeteria General Helper facilitates the daily functioning of the cafeteria by providing comprehensive support in food preparation, service, cleaning, inventory management, and merchandise reception, as well as providing cashier support as needed. Collaborating closely with the Sous Chef, Cafeteria Supervisor and the broader team, this role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment that ensures a welcoming food service experience for the ISP community.

• Reports to: School Services Manager
• Collaborates closely with: Cafeteria Supervisor, Cooks, Sous Chef, and other ISP colleagues.

Responsibilities: (Including but not limited to)
● Assist cooks with the preparation of food according to daily menus and established kitchen procedures.
● Serve food to students, staff, and members of the ISP community while maintaining high standards of customer service.
● Follow food safety, hygiene, and proper food handling standards at all times.
● Support the general cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen, service areas, and cafeteria equipment.
● Wash and organize pots, dishes, utensils, trays, and other tools required for daily operations.
● Clean and disinfect floors, walls, cold rooms, freezers, pantries, work tables, and service areas.
● Assist the Cafeteria Supervisor with inventory counts for pantry items, cold room products, frozen goods, and vegetables.
● Support the reception, verification, organization, and proper storage of merchandise and supplies.
● Operate the cash register when assigned, process cafeteria payments, and complete the corresponding cash balance.
● Support different cafeteria areas as needed to ensure smooth daily operations.

What you will do: Day-to-day tasks:
● Help prepare ingredients and food items in coordination with the cooks.
● Serve meals and cafeteria products to students, staff, and visitors in a courteous and efficient manner.
● Keep food service stations clean, organized, and properly stocked.
● Wash dishes, pots, utensils, and equipment used during food preparation and service.
● Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, workstations, storage areas, and cafeteria service spaces.
● Assist with receiving deliveries and storing products in the appropriate areas.

● Support inventory counts and help maintain organized storage areas.
● Use the cash register to charge cafeteria items when needed.
● Balance the cash register according to established procedures.
● Collaborate with cafeteria team members to cover operational needs during busy periods, events, or staff absences.

Requisitos

Qualifications: Necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to perform the job.
● High school diploma required.
● Previous experience in cafeteria, kitchen, food service, hospitality, cleaning, or customer service preferred.
● Knowledge of food safety, hygiene practices, and proper food handling standards preferred.
● Experience using a cash register or point-of-sale system preferred.
● Basic numerical skills and ability to balance cash transactions accurately.
● Ability to follow instructions, procedures, menus, and daily operational routines.
● Ability to lift, move, organize, and store cafeteria supplies and merchandise as required by the role.
● Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
● High level of organization and responsibility.
● Basic English proficiency is a plus.
