High School Science Lab Assistant

The Opportunity

At ISP, learning is a journey of discovery—for students and for the adults who guide them. We believe curiosity builds courage, compassion creates connection, and great schools don’t just prepare students for the world—they help them shape it.

We’re looking for a High School Science Lab Assistant who is organized, safety-minded, and passionate about supporting hands-on learning. The ideal candidate will help ensure our science labs are well-prepared, well-maintained, and ready to support students as they explore biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental systems.

You’ll work alongside our science faculty and report to the High School Principal, playing a key role in creating the conditions for meaningful, inquiry-based science instruction. If you thrive in a collaborative environment and take pride in behind-the-scenes excellence, we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

Lab Preparation & Support

  • Prepare chemical solutions, stains, reagents, and culture media for biology, chemistry, and environmental systems labs as directed by instructors.
  • Culture and maintain microorganisms and stock cultures; prepare plated and tubed media and dispose of used materials properly.
  • Collaborate closely with science faculty on lab setup, material preparation, and field activity logistics.
  • Supervise students during lab activities as needed to support safe and productive learning.

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all science supplies and chemicals using digital tracking systems.
  • Receive, date, and properly store all stock and supplies upon delivery.
  • Monitor supply levels and proactively communicate needs for equipment and supply purchases to instructors and administration.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on physics, chemistry, and biology equipment; ensure all equipment is regularly checked and in working order.

Safety & Lab Maintenance

  • Assist in the implementation and enforcement of proper safety procedures and standards across all science labs.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards promptly.
  • Assist in the proper inventory and disposal of used, spent, or expired chemicals and reaction byproducts.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all lab spaces, including fume hoods, balances, sinks, and community supply areas.
  • Examine safety equipment and first aid supplies regularly to ensure proper working order.
  • Restock lab consumables such as weigh boats, wash bottles, detergent, and other routine supplies.

Community & Communication

  • Build strong working relationships with science faculty grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared accountability.
  • Communicate proactively about equipment repairs, supply needs, and lab readiness.
  • Engage with the wider ISP community by supporting school events and activities as appropriate.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the High School Principal.

What You Bring

  • University studies in a science-related field.
  • At least two years of experience in a similar laboratory support role.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with a high level of stress tolerance.
  • Proficiency with computers and digital inventory or tracking systems.
  • Deep dedication to learning, continual growth, and professional development.
  • Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and an international mindset.
  • Commitment to excellence and to the safety and well-being of students.
  • High level of English proficiency.

Why Join ISP?

ISP CHILD PROTECTION POLICY STATEMENT

Schools strive to ensure that all children in their care are afforded a safe and secure environment in which to grow and develop. Child abuse and neglect are violations of a child’s human rights and are obstacles to the child’s education as well as their physical, emotional, and social development. Child abuse and neglect are of growing concern in schools throughout the world.

The International School of Panama, in keeping with our core beliefs and mission statement, has adopted a Child Protection Policy that will empower students, families and staff in matters related to the health, safety and care of children in attendance at our school.

This Child Protection Policy is the school’s commitment to do our utmost to prevent and protect children from abuse. It is a statement of intent that demonstrates the school's commitment to safeguard children from harm and makes clear to all its members what is required in case of a known or suspected case of abuse. All ISP faculty, staff, and employees, as well as all students, parents and other relevant community members and service providers associated with the school (the “ISP Community”), have a legal obligation to report suspected incidences of child abuse or neglect whenever they have reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered or is at risk of suffering any type of abuse regardless of the location where the abuse takes place.
