Athletic Director and Coordinator of After-School Activities at ISP
The Athletic Director and Coordinator of After-School Activities leads a unified, mission-aligned program that inspires all learners to develop their full potential through athletics, co-curricular, and after-school experiences. This position oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of all K–12 athletic teams, intramurals, after-school activities (ASAs), and enrichment programs.
The Athletic Director will create a strategic vision for athletics that balances strong competitive programs with inclusive opportunities for all students to participate and develop a lifelong connection to physical activity. This role requires collaboration across divisions and departments, including evenings, weekends, and international travel.

- Collaborates with: Head of School, Principals, Coordinators, and Operations Teams
- Direct Reports: Associate Athletic Director, Athletics Coordinator, ASA Assistants, Coaches, ASA Instructors, Lifeguards, and Facilities Helper, K-12 Swimming Teacher
RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to)
1) Strategic Leadership :
- Develop, manage, and continuously improve ISP’s athletic and after-school programs in alignment with the school’s mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Create a long-term strategic vision for athletics and co-curricular offerings that foster student engagement, belonging, and leadership.
- Ensure all athletic and co-curricular programs meet and sustain the standards required for NEASC Athletics accreditation.
- Continue the development and formalization of a new Athletic League in collaboration with a network of like-minded international schools, building shared structures for competition, collaboration, and student growth.
- Integrate universal design principles and equitable practices into all programs, ensuring access and inclusion for every learner.
- Lead with data-informed reflection, collecting feedback from students, staff, and families to evolve programming each year.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement through the regular review of policies, procedures, and outcomes across all areas.
- Own and annually update the Athletics/ASA Handbook, aligning codes of conduct, eligibility, travel, safety, and restorative consequence processes with divisional policies and NEASC standards.
2) Program Design and Management :
- Oversee the planning, budgeting, and daily operation of all interscholastic athletic teams, ASAs, and enrichment programs.
- Ensure program variety across creativity, arts, academics, and sports, maximizing participation and facility use.
- Coordinate the scheduling of practices, contests, and after-school sessions across all grade levels.
- Supervise the recruitment, onboarding, and annual evaluation of all coaches, ASA instructors, and departmental staff, ensuring compliance with ISP’s child protection, concussion, and safety protocols.
- Provide consistent coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for all direct reports to ensure growth and excellence in practice.
- Lead the planning and hosting of local and international tournaments, meets, and showcase events.
- Oversee the ASA registration process, ensuring transparent class selection and effective communication with families.
- Monitor the quality and impact of all programs to ensure alignment with ISP’s standards of excellence and other core values.
3) Operations and Communication :
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic goals.
- Oversee all logistics related to facility scheduling, equipment management, transportation, and safety.
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, Maintenance, Security, and Communications teams for seamless program operations.
- Maintain accurate records, calendars, and digital communication channels (website, social media, newsletters).
- Partner with the Communications Office to highlight student achievements and promote school spirit.
- Ensure that operational systems and documentation support NEASC compliance and reflect institutional best practices.
4) Proactive divisional communication :
- Provide principals/divisional teams with timely weekly updates of game schedules, rosters, travel/early-release lists, and any changes.
- Notify divisions and attendance offices of student absences related to athletics/ASAs in advance and on the day-of; reconcile post-event.
- Maintain a shared calendar and standardized templates for notifications to ensure clarity and consistency.
5) Community and Culture :
- Foster a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and inclusion across athletics and ASAs.
- Lead pre-trip and parent meetings for athletic travel, ensuring transparency, student safety, and family engagement.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, and faculty, supporting positive experiences in all programs.
- Liaise with external associations (AASCA, MEDUCA, federations, and local clubs) to promote collaboration and enhance ISP’s presence in regional and international networks.
- Collaborate closely with the PTA and other parent partners to strengthen community engagement and school spirit.
6) Student accountability & restorative practices :
- Coordinate with divisions on discipline issues, ensuring that after-school restorative consequences are issued by Athletics/ASAs and grounded in the Athletics/ASA Handbook, even when behaviors occur during the school day.
- Lead coaches and assistants in role modeling, reinforcing expectations, and supporting students to repair harm and re-engage with the community.
- Track interventions and outcomes; share summaries with divisional leadership to close the loop and improve practice.
- Ensure all instructors, coaches, and assistants model the values of respect, integrity, professionalism, and continuous learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of four years of leadership experience in athletics or co-curricular programming within an educational setting.
- Proven experience in program design, staff supervision, and budget management.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated success working collaboratively with diverse teams and community partners.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and calm.
- Deep understanding of the role of athletics and co-curricular activities in holistic education and student well-being.
